Forest House is a building with an interesting history. Originally known as Tump House, the oldest part of the building dates back to 1797. It was the home of David Mushet and his son Robert Forester Mushet until about 1850.
The Mushets were pioneers in the steel-making process and developed a process to produce hardened steel which the better known Bessemer used in his patent. Although Bessemer owed a great deal to Robert Mushet he never really acknowledged him and to a large extent took the glory.
Geoffrey and Susan Sparkes moved in with their family in July/August 2000.The Hotel is close to the centre of the old market town of Coleford with its shops, cafes and pubs. There are two golf courses, a leisure centre, a railway museum, the Tourist information Office, an excellent bookshop and a charming little cinema all within walking distance of the hotel.
